As of today, I have been physically chained to my phone for three days, today being the third day. I will remain chained to my phone for the next eleven days. I'm sleeping with my phone chained to me, showering, eating, everything. Zero breaks. I am chained twenty four hours of the day. I'm doing this as a display of how dependent upon phones we've become, and how you may not have a literal chain connecting you to your phone like I do, but you most likely have a figurative one. I have someone filming me and I will turn my experience into a documentary.
I mostly stayed inside all day today. I had trouble sleeping last night, so I ended up sleeping in way too late. I walked my dog, played piano and keyboard, and watched two movies (Holy Motors and Demoiselles du Rochefort). I'm having fun, but I cannot lie, this is the hardest thing I've ever volunteered to do. I struggle with phone addiction, and the overall goal here is to rid myself of that addiction. Eleven more days to go.
My cameraman, Todd, and I have this ongoing series of light-hearted arguments about whether or not I can actually bake, because he has now beared witness to me ruining TWO ENTIRE BATCHES of chocolate chip cookies, which at any other time, are my specialty. Since I'm chained, though, I can't seem to get in a good enough head space to not mess up something as simple as chocolate chip cookies. I'll be making attempt number three tonight when I return home to my internetless apartment.
Wish me luck.
